A 43-year-old resident of HMT Layout in Mathikere, Bengaluru, has been awarded Rs 2 lakh in compensation by a city consumer court after a dental procedure at Sabka Dentist clinic resulted in damage to 10 of his teeth. The court, relying on the findings of the Karnataka State Dental Council, directed the dentists to pay the awarded amount for the harm caused, and the clinic was ordered to refund Rs 50,000, part of the fee paid by the patient.

The complainant, who initially sought orthodontic treatment with ceramic braces for the correction of his front teeth, faced prolonged and allegedly negligent procedures, resulting in extensive damage to his teeth.

In 2016, the patient approached Sabka Dentist clinic on Sampige Road in Malleswaram for orthodontic treatment. However, the procedure, which was supposed to last a year, extended for over two years. The removal of braces in March 2019 revealed severe damage to eight teeth and enamel on two others. Despite reporting his issues, the patient claimed that a new team of dentists assigned to him caused further damage and pain.

Seeking redressal, he approached St John’s Medical College Hospital, where doctors identified multiple ceramic aberrations and recommended costly procedures. With no action taken by the police, the patient lodged a complaint with the consumer court, accusing the clinic of service deficiency.
